The drumming in the big room woke me from my
sleepwalk through another day of elbows and
avoidance, the close encounter at the big box store, polo-shirted worker flogging his loaded trolley like a chariot down the aisle, he would have run me down had I not seen him coming, there is so much I don't see coming, bluetooth in my ears and a vague sense of elsewhere in my head, I'd only come for a carton of the cat's favorite food, I was unprepared for combat.
By the time I made my way to the nature center I was so far away I could only navigate by resonance, drawn to the beating heart of this place that holds on holds on holds on, the four men sitting north south east west before the plate glass window, dissolving all the elsewheres, the sun a farewell below the treeline, the sky as it was in the beginning, ablaze and astonishing.
