Long View

Darling, you should see the view from up here.
So vast it is, I can look out on the horizon and see
beyond tomorrow’s tomorrow and out into the ink
of the universe, all that ever was or will be, and I can
tell you where yesterday’s throwaway lives float
among today’s plastic wrap and the bobbing rafts of
two-liter islands. I can show you the death that lies
beneath the waves, the wreckage of your earnest
daily efforts, an entire civilization slipping beneath
the surface. Darling, if only you could see the view
from here, surely it would take your breath away.
