Grand Piano

The world sat down at the grand
piano and played the song I wrote
all those years ago
when I thought I was leaving,
before I understood how hard
the body fights to stay,
before I knew how much music
the world knew by heart, my song
a mere measure, still the world
remembered every word.

  1. Hope your open mic event next month is a blast!

Our new local theatre just bought a grand piano; a friend will be the first to play it. I will send this to her.

And I have a post-it on my laptop with your words: “the story doesn’t end just because the ones
who hold the ledgers burn the books”

    Thank you!

    1. Thanks so much. It’s been a rough 1Q25 for a lot of us (hello, understatement) and I’m looking forward to that spoken word event as an opportunity to check the pulse of the local literati. We’ve been so scattered for so long. Congratulations on your theatre’s grand piano. What a lovely way to welcome the spring.
