They said the internet was forever but it turned out to have used itself up 
in a just a few decades, the digital decay a mirror of the ruinscapes everywhere visible as I rode the train to a faraway city, past skeletons of abandoned homesteads and a lone tree standing with limbs akimbo
where the corn once grew, a rusting John Deere sits unfixable in a roofless barn, links in the eternal chain ending in yet another page not found.
