Elegy

The cat slipped out when I wasn't looking, found his way to the other side, I came upon him in a dream, sitting in a circle of sunlight at the end of the driveway, he never went outside but I think he would have liked to, I tucked his bones into the soft earth beneath the backyard tree that came down last summer, the one that lays now across the garden, the one that dropped so slowly to the ground I never even heard it fall.

  1. Punched me smack in the gut, once again.

    1. Funny you should choose that expression. Losing him left me gutted. Love to you Ms Birdsong.
